By Sanket Barde • Basic Electrical Engineering • GATE • JEE
Calculate impedance, current, phase angle, power factor and real, reactive and apparent power for R, L, C, RL, RC and series RLC circuits — and watch voltage, current and power waveforms animate live.

How to use this simulator:

  1. Select the circuit type (R, L, C, RL, RC or RLC).
  2. Enter the supply voltage (RMS), frequency and component values.
  3. Click Calculate & Simulate to see all results with formulas and live waveforms.

QuantityFormulaUnit
Inductive reactanceXL = 2πfLΩ
Capacitive reactanceXC = 1 / (2πfC)Ω
Impedance (series RLC)Z = √(R² + (XL − XC)²)Ω
Phase angleφ = tan⁻¹((XL − XC) / R)degree
Power factorcos φ = R / Z—
Real powerP = V I cos φ = I²RW
Reactive powerQ = V I sin φVAR
Apparent powerS = V IVA
Resonant frequencyfr = 1 / (2π√(LC))Hz

Remember: In an inductive circuit (XL > XC) the current lags the voltage; in a capacitive circuit (XC > XL) it leads. At resonance XL = XC, so Z = R, the power factor is unity and the current is maximum.
